About Martial Arts For Kids:

The challenge with many studios offering martial arts for kids in Toronto is that they simply were not organically created with kids in mind.

Evoke challenges the typical martial arts for kids experience with our unrivalled ability to offer families age-appropriate lessons while helping children unleash the best versions of themselves.

We cut through the noise between the different martial arts disciplines – karate, jiu-jitsu, hapkido, taekwondo, judo, kickboxing, etc.

Our kids class curriculum is designed around a powerful life-skills foundation and functional martial arts training at an age-appropriate level.

My son attended a birthday party for 4 year olds recently at Evoke. The 3 instructors leading the party were absolutely phenomenal. I've never been to a party with such enthusiastic and friendly instructors...they really made the event! The space was also so bright and clean. We had an amazing time and plan to enrol in a class soon!

We recently hosted my 7yo son's birthday party at Evoke. We were blown away by Evoke's hospitality and level of service. All of the kids that attended had a blast playing ninja group games and competing in obstacle courses. We were so impressed by the instructors' enthusiasm, patience, and professionalism. They were also so helpful with party set-up and clean-up. Highly recommend Evoke, and we will most likely be back!

I started Hapkido classes several months ago with zero expertise and my experience at Evoke has been incredible! Taking up a new skill or sport especially as an adult can be really intimidating but everyone has been incredibly kind, caring, patient, and supportive. I’ve learned so much, I’ve had so much fun, I feel a lot stronger and I constantly look forward to my Tuesday and Saturday classes. I've been a part of Evoke since their teen hapkido program, and as an adult in their fitness kickboxing program and there is truly no other place I'd rather go to. The environment & structure of classes at Evoke is challenging yet rewarding and I leave each class feeling stronger than before.

One of the unique things about Evoke are the way their classes are structured to provide the members with a total body workout, eliminating the need for a traditional gym. I also love how they incorporate deep breathing sessions at the end of certain workouts for a proper cool down and to get in touch with your body and build that muscle-mind connection. I have left certain classes feeling humbled by the combos, which gives me more motivation to keep going back and getting better at the moves.

Lastly, my favorite thing about the club are the instructors Miss Tess, Elona and Master Dayo who are exceptional at their jobs. They are supportive, but don't hesitate to push members to their best potential, all the while remaining kind and encouraging. As a result, Evoke has become a happy place for me that I'd recommend everybody to join, despite their fitness goals.

What’s Different About Martial Arts For Kids At Evoke Academy:

We focus on the very essence of martial arts for kids – helping them evoke their very best through personal development and achievement.

They learn to be better listeners, self-disciplined, focused, and skilled young martial artists.

We blend progressive training methods with almost two decades of experience to create the best martial arts program for kids. The curriculum is designed to target their unique developmental needs at each stage of growth using research on child education and programming.

We foster a nurturing environment that incorporates techniques from martial arts disciplines like hapkido, jiujitsu, and kickboxing – to help elevate performance reflexes and athleticism in kids.

Martial arts for kids at Evoke are taught by a caring team of charismatic instructors and coaches with years of experience, and who are really great working with kids.

Kids Program FAQ:

My child is a beginner. When’s the appropriate time to register or enrol.

You can join anytime.

Classes run year round and organized in such away that new kids can enrol at any time.

Each lesson is well structured, beginner friendly, and progressively challenging for new students to join in.

Will this teach my child to be aggressive

Absolutely not!

In fact, it’s quite the opposite at our school. Our teachings are age-appropriate with an emphasis on life skills and positive character building.

We use martial arts movement to enhance athletic skills, while emphasizing values such as patience, self-control, respect, and self-discipline.

Is this an activity for boys, or can my daughter attend too

Martial arts is great for all kids and at Evoke we have as many girls as we have boys, and they all love it.

None of our programs are gender dominated, so your daughter will not feel intimidated.

In fact we have more girls in our advanced classes and lots of female instructors on our team that many of the kids look up to.

My child is not very athletic. Is this a program they can participate in

Whether or not your child is athletic, they’ll feel right at home in our classes.

Our awesome team of experienced instructors will work hand in hand with your kids to insure they have a fun, exciting, and enriching experience.

Martial arts helps kids develop great motor skills and an excellent complement to other sports.

I have a younger child. Can they attend the same program

Lessons are organize by age to make sure your children are appropriately challenged. This program is for ages 8 to 12 only.

We have Lil’ Dragon classes that are well-structured for 4 & 5 year olds, and 6 & 7 year olds.

Our classes, and programs, typically run back-to-back. On some days we even have classes simultaneously on an adjacent training floor to make it convenient for families with siblings.

Is this safe? I do not want my child to get hurt

Absolutely.

From having a 6-to-1 student-instructor ratio for efficient supervision, to our padded workout floors, and top of the equipment, safety is always a priority.

Every aspect of our Lil’ Dragons program is designed to ensure your child is safe and having fun.

Do kids get to fight each other or compete

Controlled contact is integral in this type of martial art, but there is no sparring from the get go.

New students spend a number of months in our fundamentals class where beginners are taught how to fall safely, apply basic tackle escapes, and defensive moves.

Evoke’s curriculum also equips kids with tools to deal with aggression and bullying without using their fists 🙂

Will they stick to it or get bored soon

Children tend to take well to classes at Evoke martial arts.

There is always something new learn, and we keep classes fresh so they never bored.
